EXTENDED STAY AWARENESS/MonitorSM
Awareness, Preference & Usage for
the U.S. Extended Stay Business Market


Background & Methodology

The DIRECTIONS® EXTENDED-STAY AWARNESS/MonitorSM is an ongoing tracking study designed to gauge Brand and Advertising Awareness, and Brand Preference for the U.S extended stay Lodging market.

Beginning in 1998, data has been collected quarterly through a RDD telephone interviews approximately 15 minutes in length. A total of 240 respondents are interviewed annually. The respondents for this study are selected from DKS&A's DIRECTIONS® database. The DKS&A database contains a demographically representative sample of travelers throughout the U.S. Screening characteristics for this study include:

  • Travelers staying five or more consecutive nights at a hotel.

  • Traveling for a business purpose. (If the purpose of the stay was a business convention, the convention was not being held at the hotel where the traveler stayed)

    Frequency of Travel and Stays by Room Rate

    Respondents list the number of nights spent in hotels for an extend stays (5+ nights) and for shorter-stay business travel in the past 12 months. Usage patterns are analyzed by room rate.

  • Brand Preference (choice)
  • Total Unaided Brand Awareness
  • Brand Intent (expect to stay)
